There’s something so captivating about a well-worn ID card. The photo, the stamps, the scuffed edges — it all whispers stories from long ago. With our Vintage ID Cards Kit – Free Sampler, I wanted to give you a taste of that magic: a little printable packed with personality and potential.

Today, I’m sharing how I turned the freebie printout into a perfectly distressed faux ID, using a few favorite tools and techniques.
How to Make a Faux Vintage ID Card
Print & Cut
The sampler sheet includes:
- 1 blank ID card template
- 3 vintage-style black-and-white portraits
- Fussy cut ephemera, including stamps, a fingerprint, a green label, and “IDENTIFICATION” & “APPROVED” stamps

I printed mine on a sturdy matte cardstock. Then it was time to cut out all the elements — a satisfying task with a good paper trimmer and detail scissors.

Distress & Age
Now the fun part! Here’s how I aged the ID:
- Crumpled the card to soften the paper and create light creases
- Inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Oxide
- Used a yarn cutter to rough up the border — it adds that authentically tattered feel
- Added a date stamp (10 May 1927) and ID number using red ink for a touch of vintage drama

Arrange & Assemble
I chose one portrait that spoke to me — this woman’s expression had a quiet determination that felt perfect for a fictional bookshop employee ID. I laid out the elements roughly to see where everything would go.

To give the card more dimension and realism, I added a few fussy cuts and rubber-stamped details with archival ink, using a circular stamp for an “official” look.

Final Touches: A Story Comes to Life
I imagined this ID card belonged to a quiet, intelligent woman who worked at a dusty old bookshop in 1927. Perhaps she kept records of borrowed tomes and secret messages tucked inside spines. These little scenes are what make crafting with vintage ephemera so special — your journal becomes a home for stories yet to be told.

Hi Jenny!
I just bought the kit on KOFI – I love this kind of vintage-y forms and papers. Love the idea. 😀
Is the free kit no longer available?
Thanks for helpful instructions.
